The Institute of Occupational Medicine

The Institute of Occupational Medicine (IOM) is a major independent centre of scientific excellence in the fields of occupational and environmental health, hygiene and risk. Our mission is to benefit those at work and in the community by providing quality research, consultancy and training in health, hygiene and safety and by maintaining our independent, impartial position as an international centre of excellence. IOM is either coordinating or collaborating in eight currently running FP7 projects focussed on nanoparticle risk issues. Our work includes the development and application of measurement and control systems, mathematical models and survey methods. Evaluation and assessment of scientific evidence bases and of the implementation or impact of workplace interventions at a policy and engineering level.

Our work in the project will be to undertake an assessment for workplace and environmental exposures and provide independent authoritative guidance about health-related issues. The outcome of this work will inform the development of safe working practices and process design.
